'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range strike from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the rebound before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with the crowd swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result capped an incredible turnaround given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 during the second half. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win secured a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that distance," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed shape. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the City players who complimented the way Orient attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It seems as if they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It takes a strong mentality and attention just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a popular figure across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at lower division Salford City, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including two matches fixtures against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This marks quite the ride for the player from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his father, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to the weather of -15C. "This represented a extended travel and it was chilly," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to interact with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on public transport after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
