Donald Trump's Regime of Retribution and Reward

Donald Trump's insatiable urge for payback has swiftly evolved into a methodical framework. Over the year since his election, the leader's rage and caprices have assumed the guise of official policies in a manner reminiscent to past authoritarian systems. Federal officials who fail to comply are immediately dismissed and succeeded by loyalists. Political officials who confront him encounter prosecution, judicial process and punishment. Adversaries have been labeled under executive directives as “unpatriotic”, “anti-Christian” and “opposing economic freedom”, and threatened with criminal charges as “terrorists”.

Government Institutions Transformed

Every instance involving targeting of political opponents and immunity for loyalists displays its own unique qualities. But, notwithstanding their individual nature, they represent expressions of what has developed as a calculated method. These episodes are anything but coincidental. Trump's cleansing of DoJ prosecutors and law enforcement officials, coupled with his appointment of devotees in key roles, began quickly, soon took on a consistency, and has now been shaped into a structure. DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been restructured into partisan agencies under Trump's direct direction to execute his directives. Injustice has been turned into standard. It constitutes the retribution system.

Leadership is focused with punishing the President's perceived adversaries than they are with safeguarding our country's safety.

Inside the Apparatus

The foundation of this mechanism has been exposed in the legal complaint of multiple previous high-ranking law enforcement agents filed in the ninth month in the judicial system in DC against agency head an administration figure and top lawyer Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a campaign of payback against them for what administration figures judged to be a failure to demonstrate sufficient allegiance”. The document states that one official, the former interim leader, describes a discussion in which the director “publicly acknowledged the impropriety of his behavior”.

He had sought to shield agency personnel from being dismissed, the lawsuit claims. He told him that “White House figures” – perceived by him to be the executive branch and DoJ – had ordered him to fire anyone who they identified as having worked on a criminal investigation against Trump. The filing goes on: “He clarified that he had to fire the individuals his superiors told him to fire, because his ability to hold his own role relied on the removal of the personnel who worked on investigations involving the President. Patel explained that there was no way he or Driscoll could do to halt these or any other firings, because ‘the agency tried to put the President in prison and he hasn't forgotten it.’” After he told him he was disregarding the FBI's own internal rules, he reportedly said “he recognized that and he realized the nature of the swift terminations were probably improper”.

Widespread Consequences

Following Patel's alleged admission to him, the Department of Justice and the law enforcement agency have been weakened and redirected for his revenge apparatus. Several of the agency's high-ranking agents were dismissed or compelled to leave in the first days of the presidency. Approximately thousands of lawyers at the justice department have agreed to a “deferred resignation program”. A minimum of seven federal prosecutors, such as those in the southern district of New York, resigned in dissent over what they viewed as partisan influence in dropping the corruption case against the city leader, a political figure, in return for his cooperation with the administration's ICE detentions of immigrants. The ethics division of DoJ, which oversees corruption cases, has been diminished to two attorneys. The civil rights division has been severely reduced: seventy percent of its employees has left. 33% of top officials at the department have quit. The section enforcing conservation statutes has experienced the exit of 50% its management.

Rewards and Penalties

Regarding the Adams case, the temporary lawyer for the federal division, Danielle Sassoon, stepped down in objection against what she labeled as the “exchange”. A key figure, his “enforcement chief,” appeared as the implementer with Adams on a media outlet to announce: “Unless he complies, I'll be back in New York City.”. Additionally, a former official, earlier the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the agreement, was awarded an judicial position, a possible stepping stone to the supreme court.

His immunity for crimes perpetrated while in power, provided by the unprecedented judgment of the GOP-led on the judicial body, thus thwarting his prosecution over the political violence and preserving his electoral prospects for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he relies to protect his stalwarts. Under these circumstances, he has been empowered to enable corruption. The impact of the judicial ruling infuses his administration and the political party thoroughly. The legal case has metastasized. As the former president's White House counsel John Dean remarked about the Watergate
