Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on the start of the week after intense storm systems swept through the area, producing strong winds topping over 100 km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Damage

Residents observed large ice chunks measuring up to 7 centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that various areas across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams working to handle the widespread outages.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

At the same time, nearly one thousand households in Victoria also encountered power outages after the capital city experienced its wettest day in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred emergency reports across the area, primarily for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• The Werribee area - experienced significant destruction
• Hoppers Crossing area - various assistance requests
• Wyndham - 179 emergency requests

During the peak on Sunday, more than 28k electricity consumers in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential expected across various areas of both regions.

Medical Alert

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
