British Airways will offer free fast in-flight wifi via Starlink deal
Flyers flying with British Airways can soon use quick internet in the air at no cost after a new agreement involving Elon Musk's space firm.
No-cost plus High-speed Internet Across the Board
The carrier revealed that the complimentary, “fast and dependable” internet provision from SpaceX is set to be offered to travelers in coach, premium economy, or first class starting the coming month.
Widespread Implementation Across Multiple Carriers
The umbrella firm for British Airways, the airline group, confirmed it had secured an agreement with the satellite firm to offer connectivity access across over 500 jets operated by its operators, including Aer Lingus, Iberia, and the low-cost airline.
Seamless Wifi starting at Gate through Landing
BA stated that the rollout of the technology formed part of a multi-billion pound “modernization” initiative and will provide lag-free internet access to travelers from boarding to landing, even when in flight over seas or far-off locations.
Passengers can connect several gadgets while they will not have to use a unique password.
“Gamechanging for us as well as passengers, improving their experience in the air with us by offering them seamless connectivity throughout the flight.”
Current Internet Options
Limited wifi service is currently provided for BA passengers on the majority of their jets through the .air platform.
Enrollees of BA’s reward scheme may dispatch messages plus plain-text emails during flights at no cost, whereas travelers looking to access music, video, or films during their flight who are not travelling in business or first can expect to be charged between £4.99 to £21.99 per internet package.
SpaceX’s System
The provider maintains a constellation of thousands of spacecraft and is operated under the billionaire's company.
Ongoing Improvements for BA
Their leadership have been striving to turn British Airways around following a long time with financial constraints, technology issues, labor disputes, plus staff cuts.
The airline stated that use with AI has assisted the airline to achieve its on-time performance to the best levels from over a decade ago.
Profit Outlook
In August, BA disclosed a rise in operating profits for H1 of this year, helping to push the parent company results higher.
International Airlines Group will release the financial performance for Q3 recently soon.
Additional Starlink Partnerships
The airline's news arrives shortly after mobile phone carrier another UK company said it was partnering alongside Starlink to boost mobile network service in rural parts of the UK, letting customers to automatically link mobile devices through orbiting devices if there is no standard mobile signal exists.
